After .........

a brief hiatus following my 300th blog post, I have returned to the ring in time to release my early season baseball bonanza package. While I have been glued to the the NHL/NBA playoffs, during these past few weeks in the MLB, I have absolutely crushed it. Despite my utter disdain for the common man, so far anyone who has been long the Yankees and other common man faves, has done quite well.

Despite playing well below even the most negative expectations, tonight I am releasing the Red Sox behind the ageless wonder Tim Wakefield, to break the snide. Usually only neophytes try to forecast the end of losing streaks but rest assured, you are dealing with a professional here.

In the NHL I am releasing the Devils over the Flyers in a must win game tonight for the Devils. While their lack of scoring and overall piss poor play is of major concern, this series will be a battle and I cannot see the flyers coasting in this one.

Game of the Night......

After passing on the earlier game due to a lack of interest and the belief that this game would turn into a low scoring, error plagued slugfest, I am releasing my Ultimate College Game of the Year play in tonight's second act.

While Duke has been impressive in its march to Indianapolis, the Blue Devils and coach K are facing a luminary in the form of Robert "Huggy Bear" Huggins. Under the watch of Huggy Bear, the Mountaineers have become a finely tuned defensive team with a penchant for hitting big shots in the clutch. Furthermore, Huggy is looking to make a fashion statement in the form of his velour tracksuit. With all this going for West Virginia, I think this game is an obvious choice- Mountaineers plus the 3 points. Duke is getting a premium based on reputation. The Propick proprietary model has West Virginia favored by 2 points so this is a "buy signal" on all levels. Take WVU +3 tonight.

On a more somber note, there is a missing parrot that was last seen on the Upper East side early Good Friday Morning. After showing off his new pet up and down second avenue, Marxy decided it would be a good idea to "feed the bird some patron shots". Needless to say, chaos ensued as the inebriated bird went flying around a well known second avenue watering hole, before flying out an open window. A reward of $5000 has been posted by Marxy for any information leading to the safe recovery of this exotic bird. All leads should be emailed to: faydar12@gmail.com.

Losers Ball?

Let's face it, Carolina fans are pretending this NIT experience is all just a bad dream. After winning the 2009 NCAA Finals in dominant fashion, the last thing these spoiled fans are looking to do is "throw another shrimp on the barbie", in the form of a 2010 NIT Championship banner. By no means am I diminishing the NIT but lets be honest, does anyone see an opening game ceremony next year where the NIT banner will be raised alongside NCAA Championship banners, retired players jersey's (specifically Michael Jordan's). In fact, I think Roy Williams would be fired on the spot if he had the balls to pull a stunt like this.

With all that being said, tonight's matchup between the Dayton Flyers and the Tarheels is an intriguing one. Dayton has played well all year in a competitive Atlantic 10 conference and fell a little short of capturing an NCAA tourney birth. Conversely, the Tar Heels were abysmal all season and at times played like they couldn't wait to get off the court. While the recent effort has been reflective of Tarheel pride, I still cannot see them wanting this game as badly as Dayton does. Despite the edge Carolina has in coaching and depth, this is a young team and Dayton should have a decided advantage in terms of leadership.

Tonights release is Dayton -3 over North Carolina. In a perverse way I would like to see UNC win the NIT so they can claim back to back NCAA/NIT titles. Furthermore, if Duke won the NCAA (real title), you think UNC might be subjected to some local ridicule? As Marxy so often says "Don't kid yourself, these guys are getting ass no matter how much of a joke the tournament is, so why not go out there are try to win it?". Sorry pal my money is on Dayton tonight.
