After scratching my eyes out watching a Mets win and subsequent "offensive outburst" totaling six runs, I decided to look for a few feel good stories in the world of sports. After taking the Nationals to "tame that explosive Mets juggernaut", I learned a valuable lesson- never doubt the genius of Jerry Manuel. How can the media rip Manuel for his remarks following Gary Sheffield's cramp suffered last week. All Manuel said was "the doctors are calling it cramps....so surgery on Thursday". This was some much needed levity during an awful season and I commend the skipper for his comments. As far as I am concerned, Manuel needs to keep these off handed remarks coming. Shotgun a beer following the next blowout loss and throw Minaya under the bus. Talk about how this team has overrated its farm system for the past 20 years and he is the latest in the long line of lame duck managers. I am not a Manuel fan but if he acts like he could care less for the remainder of the season, I will do a complete about face on this issue.
Twenty years ago (July 21, 1989) Mike Tyson beat Carl "the truth" Williams in 1minute 33 seconds into the first round to continue his streak of dominance. What boxing historians forget is the epic street fight between Tyson and Mitch "Blood" Green in Harlem at 4am. for anyone who forgot about duel here is a recap: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkigeXrliwc . I don't think enough has been written about the life and times of Mitch "Blood" Green.
